Here in New England, it is finally starting to get a little chilly. The leaves are starting to fall, there’s pumpkin spice in all the foods. It’s the time of year when crocheters and knitters rejoice – scarf season!

“Cozy Shawls and Cowls” has 7 fun patterns by designer Christine Naugle, so whether you are looking to crochet something for yourself or you want to get a head start on holiday gifts, this book is sure to please! There is the “Alturus Shawl”, “Imogene Infinity Cowl”, “Toxaway Shawl”, “Alpine Scarf”, “Trail Creek Neckwarmer”, “Trinity Capelet”, and the “Twin Lakes Infinity Scarf”. Each pattern starts out with a shopping list so you know exactly what materials you need, as well as info on any special stitches. Patterns are written out clearly and are easy to understand, as per usual with Leisure Arts pattern books! In the back of the book you’ll find the description for all abbreviations used, as well as yarn information so you can match your yarn to the exact ones used in the book, if you so choose.

So far, I’ve made one oversized cowl and one triangle shawl from this new book from Leisure Arts. Both of which I love so much I am keeping for myself! Lol. The “Imogene Infinity Cowl” is a particularly cozy, but quick to work up scarf, so it would make a great gift, if you can part with it! Shawls and cowls are great to crochet if you tend to throw caution to the wind from a gauge perspective…meaning if you aren’t the type of crocheter who swatches, it really doesn’t matter, your scarf will still fit.

The gorgeous “Alpine Scarf” on the cover of the book was an absolute “must-make”. At first I started with a light blue and dark blue color combo, but there wasn’t enough contrast and I just didn’t like it. So instead I used some dark gray heather yarn for the main color with a contrasting fuscia sparkle yarn, and that was a keeper! The bulk of the scarf (it’s a triangle shawl, really) was made using extended single crochet, which makes a dense yet drapeable fabric. It turned out lovely, don’t you think?

The “Imogene Cowl” calls for 2 skeins of Lion Brand Scarfie yarn, but I used exactly one skein (colorway Black/Hot Pink) and made a perfectly sized (for me) infinity scarf/cowl. Before I joined the two ends, it measured 62”, which wraps around my neck loosely twice. I also like to wear it draped around my shoulders and hanging down in front. Even though the stitch pattern is a little open and lacy, there’s some puff stitches to give the scarf some texture, and the wool-blend yarn makes this a really warm and cozy accessory.

It’s the time of year to wrap yourself in lovely layers to stay cozy, and Leisure Arts has you covered. Literally! Lol. “Cozy Shawls and Scarves” is available in paperback and as a digital download. So if you have your yarn and hook you could be making one of these beautiful scarves right now! Any of these crochet scarves or cowls would make an amazing gifts for friends and family if you’d like to start gearing up for the holiday season. Or just make something for yourself! Crocheters and knitters in general don’t make enough for themselves. Go make yourself something pretty! Lol.

Merry making!
