Dishcloths – Quick Colorful Designs to Brighten any Kitchen
Is it warm where you are? Working with cotton yarn to crochet dishcloths is a fabulous way to get through the really hot days before “scarf season” hits and you can’t bear the thought of wool of any sort.
Leisure Arts released a book recently “Dishcloths – Quick, Colorful Designs to Brighten Any Kitchen”, and the lovely people over at Leisure Arts hooked me up with a copy so I could tell you fine folks about the juicy details. It has 17 lovely designs, so you’ll be sure to find the perfect set of cloths to brighten up your space, or to give as a gift. Those holidays are coming up quick…better get on that!!
Each pattern has a “shopping list” section right at the beginning so you’ll know just what you need. Any special stitches are explained there as well. After reading through the book and crocheting 3 of the dishcloths, I would say a confident beginner could tackle all of the patterns, and probably learn a few neat things along the way. Intermediate to advanced crocheters, you will enjoy the useful gifts you can quickly make. Especially as the holiday season draws closer…and closer. Patterns are clear and well written, as per usual. There’s extra details and info in the back of the book – it has all the abbreviations you’ll need to know, as well as diagrams for pictorial explanation of any special stitches or techniques found throughout. You’ll also find yarn information, so you can match your yarn exactly for each project if you like. Overall this book meets the high quality expectations I’ve come to expect from Leisure Arts.
Now, lets get to the stuff I made! The past few days have been extremely hot here in New England, so I’ve had cotton yarn by my side, crocheting away when I can. Since dishcloths make great gifts, I had been planning to give these away…but my husband sort of claimed them lol. All well, guess I’ll have to make more! “Clusters” was the first cloth I made, and I liked it so much, I made another! It’s a lovely shell-style pattern, and works up to an impressive 13 x 13”. For the main color, I used just under one ball of cotton.
The “Around the Block” dishcloth was the next I made. And it really IS colorful…but I’m not sure the “quick” applies. The actuall crocheting was fast…but weaving in 28 tails for a dishcloth was a little bit tedious, I’m not gonna lie. Lol. Pretty though!
The “Borders” dishcloth called for two strands of fine cotton yarn held together and a G hook, but because I really wanted the dishcloths to be a set, I just used the same worsted weight cotton as I did for the other cloths and an H hook. Seemed to work out just fine!
If you’re looking for some quick and useful gifts to make, or you just want to liven up your own space, “Dishcloths – Quick, Colorful Designs to Brighten Any Kitchen” won’t disappoint! You can even get it as a digital download so, no waiting for the mail carrier! You could be crocheting these pretties today!
