Face Scrubbies – Free Crochet Pattern
|Face Scrubbies – Free Crochet Pattern
When I was reviewing the August 2018 issue of Crochet World, I was really taken with the v-stitch basket pattern, and decided to make one in size 10 thread in addition to the worsted weight version. It came out so adorable!
No doubt it would have made a lovely oversized beach bag for a Barbie doll…but I thought it would look fabulous in my bathroom as a holder for some face scrubbies. Since I didn’t actually have any, I made some. As you do when you are a crocheter with many small bits of cotton yarn. These little guys measure about 3-1/2” across, and use up SO very little yarn. I know you fellow crocheters have scraps leftover at the end of projects you don’t know what to do with – this pattern is a great way to deal with that “problem”!
Cotton yarn is what I like to go with for my bath and kitchen projects. For these scrubbies I used Premier Home Cotton, but you could also use Lily Sugar N Cream, or any other mostly cotton blend yarn. You probably don’t want to use an acrylic yarn, but it’s your own trip, so be my guest.
There are two styles of scrubbies to choose from. They each have a bit of texture to them – the first scrubby using half double crochet through the back ridge/3rd loop, and the second scrubby uses front post stitches to achieve a textured effect. The patterns have you finishing with reverse single crochet (crab stitch), which I think is really pretty but not everyone’s favorite…understandably. It can be a little fiddly and you’re working backwards which feels counterintuitive at first. If you absolutely do not wish to finish off with reverse single crochet, you can loosely slip stitch in each stitch around and call life good.
