“To The Beach” Tote Bag – Free Crochet Pattern

Beach days are one of the great Summer pastimes, especially here in New England. As a young girl, I had the opportunity to stay on the beach for a full week each year, with my Nana and Grandpa, and my uncle and aunt, in west Dennis, MA, inside the cradled arm of Cape Cod. We rented 1 side of a duplex cottage, very small, very homey, very sandy, but it was perfect. Out the big picture window, nothing but sand and ocean, far as the eye can see. A crooked wooden fence to the left separated the public beach from the private. It made for some beautiful sunsets and cherished family memories. Now there lies, sadly, instead of 3 small white duplex cottages with circle cement paver stones directing you to your front door, a large resort-hotel, complete with swimming pools and tennis court. I’d take the small sandy cottage any day but corporate america disagrees.

Planning a trip to the beach is no small feat! You need your sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, towel, brush, change of clothes, snacks, magazine or book, toys for the kids. “To The Beach” tote bag is a large, solid bottomed bag with see through sides and a drawstring closure. If you have children you might not be able to fit everything you need in this bag. Good reason to make two!

Crocheting the bag in cotton yarn will ensure it is easy to clean – just toss it in the washing machine with cold water on gentle cycle, dry in the dryer or lay flat to dry. An economical acrylic yarn would work in a pinch as well.

If the sandy dunes aren’t your scene, there’s still plenty of use to be had from this bag. Its large size and solid bottom make it a great bag to bring to the local farmers market or grocery store.
