Free Crochet Pattern – Hanging Baskets
Did everyone make it through the holiday season okay? Some serious blog neglect has taken place, since I was busy busy busy in preparation for Christmas. I’m glad it’s over…I was crocheting my fingers to the bone. I made two hats, two hooded scarves, two pairs of arm warmers, three market bags, two huge blankets, and a partridge in a pear tree.
One hooded scarf went to my sister, one to one of my two brothers. When I asked my mom what cold weather things my brother might need she said “he doesn’t wear hats or scarves or gloves.” Alrighty then. I decided on a non-wearable for him, but something useful. Since my little bro plays guitar I figured a set of hanging baskets where he could keep his picks and a few pens or pencils would be useful. Being for a young man, I kept it “manly” colors. Ya know. Black and gray. Eh. Its worked with an “H” hook in cotton WW yarn, but could really be made in any yarn of your choosing.
They ring in at about 3-1/2″ and 4″ tall, one only slightly larger than the other. Use command hanging strips and you can put em anywhere! I have one hanging on my lamppost which holds a nail file, nail clippers, pencil, pen, highlighter, my “H” crochet hook, a pair of scissors, and a couple safety pins. Whew! Everything I need for planting my butt for a couple hours of crocheting…hehe.
The patterns are great for beginner crocheters looking to gain a little confidence and crochetitude, or for seasoned crocheters looking for a little instant gratification. A great companion pattern (if you plan on making a set) is my Hanging Cylinder Basket pattern – also free and available HERE.
Without further ado, here are the patterns for both baskets. The smallest one is first followed by the slightly larger one. Enjoy and happy hooking!
