Free Crochet Pattern with Chart – “What a Mesh” Water Bottle Holder
|Free Crochet Pattern with Chart – “What a Mesh” Water Bottle Holder
Summer is in full swing here in New England. Day trips and vacations are being planned. It’s doubtful many of you are thinking about crocheting warm hats and scarves. Some do start planning holiday gift giving really early in the year. I’m guilty!
When the weather turns hot, I do tend to pack away my wool blend yarns and break out the cotton yarn. Yes, cotton yarn can be a little harder on the hands (try to keep a loose tension when you work), but the results are worth it! Cotton yarn is so versatile, you can make breathable lightweight hats, bags, baskets…and water bottle holders!
Today for you I have a free crochet pattern, the “What a Mesh” water bottle holder. Great for taking along on nature walks, day trips, or vacations. Keep your hands free for picture taking and hand holding! The bottle cozy works up quickly and uses only a little more than half a ball of cotton yarn – approximately 80 yards. With weaving in end you can easily make one in an evening. Instant gratification almost!
I’ve recently jumped headfirst into the wide world of crochet chart making. There is a bit of a learning curve, but my years of drafting with AutoCad are proving to be a useful skill I can apply to chart making as well. Many hours of staring at a computer screen going cross-eyed looking at lines and arcs has helped prepare me for more hours of going cross eyed while perfecting crochet charts. I don’t claim to be making perfect charts, but I am a perfectionist and will certainly TRY to make things as perfect as possible. Now, let me be frank here, please do not be expecting charts for ALL of my patterns…it takes quite a bitĀ of effort to get everything just so. Some patterns are just too complicated for me to even want to try charting it, at least right now. As my charting skills improve I’m sure I’ll take on more complex patterns to transform into crochet charts. But for now, I’m keeping it simple. SO, if you are a visual learner or just prefer a crochet chart (I know I do), scroll all the way down past the written pattern.
If you do not crochet but would like one or two of these for yourself, please visit my Etsy shop to purchase your very own!

What a neat idea.could you make that as flowerpot hanger? And how would you proceed to do that? Any help greatly appreciated.
That’s funny, I have been thinking I’d like to do a hanging plant type holder. You would just need to keep increasing in the round to get a flat bottom large enough to fit the planter, however the math might not work out for this exact stitch pattern. Do you have dimensions handy for the planter you were thinking of? I’m sure I could work something up!

Hi Joanna, how nice to answer so quickly. The plant I have is a Hoya and is in a pot about 10 inches high and about 8 inches at the bottom. It really should be hanging up to show off the blossoms when it is in bloom, so when I saw the water bottle I thought it would be nice to have that as a plant hanger.I’ll wait patient
Oops something went wrong while I was typing, I was saying I will wait patiently for your help. Thank you. Mady
Lovely! I’ll try to work up something soon! It might not be exactly like the water bottle holder (not sure the math/stitch repeat will work) but it will be similar. Enjoy your weekend!

hi i really don’t know what to do, i got stuck in row 7 š can you please help me T^T
Sure what part did you get stuck on?
I got stuck at step 7 too ar sl st into next 3 ch’s. Is there a tutorial?
You need to get “over” to start the next round and will be doing this by slip stitching into the chains – you can go through both loops of the chain or just one, doesn’t really matter. No tutorial at the moment but I’ll keep it in mind for the future. Hope that helps.
