Summer is officially over. Leaves here in New England have been changing colors for weeks now. It’s that odd time of year when it’s cold in the mornings, and warm in the afternoon. I don’t know about you, but I’m not ready to trade in my tank tops for sweaters just yet! So, in an effort to extend the life of my summer wardrobe I’m layering up. Specifically, I’m breaking out the wrist warmers. They are my favorite fashion accessory and also the first thing I ever crocheted!
I want you to keep your hands toasty too! So I designed a super simple wrist warmer and am sharing the pattern. Really anyone who crochets (beginners included) could make these. They are a breeze to whip up, and easily customizable to fit you perfectly. Make them longer if you want more of an arm warmer than just a wrist warmer. Change colors every row for a neat striped look. And hey, what a great project for using up your little bits of yarn. A “stash buster”, as the cool kids say.
The best part about these wrist warmers? You can have them done today. I can whip up a set (and weave in tails) in about an hour. That’s with a 2-year old running about too…so I KNOW you can finish them in about the same time, or less.
So, without further ado, here is my super simple wrist warmer pattern. Enjoy!
Simple Wrist Warmers
WW yarn (Caron Simply Soft shown in picture above)
H hook
ch – Chain
sl st – Slip Stitch
st – Stitch
dc – Double Crochet
dc2tog – Double Crochet two together/ DC decrease
sp – Space
w/ – With
Notes: ch 2 at beginning of round counts as dc.
I realize most patterns call for a ch 3 as a dc but I tend to crochet loose and a ch 3 leaves too big of a gap for me. Feel free to use a ch 3 instead of ch 2 if that’s what you’re more comfortable with – and if you’re up for a challenge, try “standing double crochet”. Google it, it’s worth it.
When joining rounds, sl st can be made into ch 2 or ch 2 sp.
1: ch even number to fit around widest part of hand/knuckles not including thumb.
24 works for my small hand.
Being careful not to twist ch’s, sl st in 1st ch to join
Ch 2 (counts as dc)
Dc in each st around.
Join to Ch 2 w/ sl st
2: Ch 2 (counts as dc)
Dc in each ST around.
Join to ch 2 w/ sl st
3-6: Repeat row 2 four times.
7: Ch 2.
Dc in (almost) each st around, leaving last 4 st unworked.
Ch 4. Sk 4 st, join to ch 2 w/ sl st
8: Ch 2.
Dc in each st around until you reach ch 4 sp
4 dc in ch 4 sp
Join to ch 2 w/ sl st
9: Ch 2.
Dc in each st around.
Join to Ch 2 w/ sl st
10. Repeat row 9
11: Ch 2.
Dc in (almost) each st around, leaving last 2 st unworked.
Dc2tog over last 2 st.
Join to ch 2 w/ sl st.
Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Thanks for posting this pattern. I’m going to make a pair of these for myself and wear them when I’m crocheting.
Also, I’m wondering if there’s a PDF version that could be downloaded.
